8x60R Portuguese Kropatschek M86

This was introduced by Portugal for the New Kropatschek magazine rifle and carbine. This was a Black Powder cartridge introduced In 1885 . Rifles were manufactured in four varieties: Rifle , Colonial Model, Short Rifle and Carbine. This was a short lived rifle, since it’s introduction was basically at the end of the black powder era. The rifle is a great collectors item and it is pleasant shooting. This cartridge should be loaded with a .318 diameter bullet. This case is also suitable for the Portuguese Guedes 1885 single shot rifle. The original loading called for a Paper patch bullet.

This was later replaced with the 8x56R Kropatschek cartridge in appox. 1905 . This change was loaded with smokeless powder thus reducing the OAL to 56 mm. This later version , the bullet diameter was increased to.323
