500/450 Westley Richards #1 Musket 2¼”

The .500/.450 No. 1 Musket cartridge was developed around 1873 by Westley Richards & Co. (Birmingham, England) for use in a rifle with a single shot action designed by Deeley & Edge. The #1 was an early Black powder case starting basically as rolled foil shot shell . it was later refined as a drawn Brass case. Many Loading show a paper patched bullet as well as Copper tube design Bullet. The suggested bullet diameter Is .454-.457 . This was not originally a military cartridge but rifles in The No 1 caliber as well a the No. 2 caliber were sold to some countries for military use.

The cartridge was suitable for Hunting but Never considered as a dangerous game cartridge
